From Fiumicino airport
- Leonardo Express train: runs non-stop from Fiumicino Aeroporto to Roma Termini in about 32 minutes, every 15 minutes. Tickets from €14. From Termini, continue as explained below. It is the fastest and most predictable option.
- Shuttle bus: several companies (for example Terravision and SIT) connect Fiumicino with Termini for less, but the time depends on traffic: allow 45–60 minutes.
- Taxi: about 45–60 minutes. The €55 fixed fare only covers the centre inside the Aurelian Walls; to Pigneto you pay by the meter. Only use the official white taxis at the rank outside arrivals.
From Ciampino airport
- Shuttle bus to Termini: about 40 minutes, around €6 (Terravision, SIT and others). From Termini, continue as explained below.
- Bus to Metro A Anagnina: about 20 minutes to the Metro A terminus. Take the metro to San Giovanni and change to Metro C for Malatesta. It is the cheapest option and avoids Termini.
- Bus + train: bus to Ciampino railway station, then a regional train to Termini in about 15 minutes.
- Taxi: about 30 minutes. Here too the fixed fare only applies inside the Aurelian Walls: to Pigneto you pay by the meter.
From Termini station
- Tram 14: leaves from in front of the station and runs along Via Prenestina through Pigneto, with no changes. From the stop it is about a 10-minute walk: we send you the exact stop name with your arrival instructions.
- Metro: Metro A towards Anagnina to San Giovanni (3 stops), then Metro C towards Monte Compatri-Pantano to Malatesta (3 stops: Lodi, Pigneto, Malatesta). From the metro exit it is about 5 minutes on foot. About 30 minutes in total.
- Taxi: about 15–20 minutes, traffic permitting.
Tickets for buses, trams and the metro
In Rome a standard ATAC ticket (BIT) is valid for 100 minutes on buses and trams and includes one metro ride. You can buy it in metro stations, at tobacconists and newsstands, or simply tap a contactless card at the metro gates. Remember to validate your ticket when you board buses and trams.
If you are staying several days, look at the 24, 48 and 72-hour tickets.
Arriving late in the evening
The Rome metro closes around 11:30 pm (later on Fridays and Saturdays) and at night only night buses run. If your flight lands late, a taxi is the simplest choice: send us your arrival time and we’ll arrange check-in together.
From Pigneto to the centre
Once you are here, Metro C takes you with no changes to San Giovanni and to Colosseo/Fori Imperiali station: from our front door to the Colosseum takes about 15 minutes. At San Giovanni you can change to Metro A for the Spanish Steps and the Vatican. Tram 19 from Via Prenestina goes towards San Lorenzo, Policlinico Umberto I hospital and Sapienza University.
For everything else, read the complete Pigneto guide. If you are coming for a hospital visit, there is also our page about staying near Policlinico and Sapienza.
